Our Best Cleaning Tips

I have compiled some of our best cleaning tips that will hopefully be of use for you.  They are short, simple, and can be used anytime.

  1. Spend 10 minutes a day de-cluttering you home-even set a timer.  This often times will motivate you to do more.
  2. Have a caddy stocked with your cleaners and cloths so you’re ready for when you get the urge to clean.
  3. Use a magic eraser to clean one side of the shower every time you shower so it will never be an extra cleaning chore.
  4. Change your shower soap to a liquid soap that will leave a lot less soapy residue behind.
  5. Use a pumice stone on those impossible stains in the toilet.
  6. Vinegar and baking soda work great for almost all your cleaning needs.
  7. Buy only the blue or white non scratch scrubby sponges as the green ones will scratch everything.
  8. Always clean from top to bottom, right to left,  and from back to front.
  9. Baking Soda is a great odor neutralizer in carpets and on couches-but use a canister vacuum to vacuum it up instead of your upright so the baking soda doesn’t get in the motor of the upright.
  10. Always use PH Balanced floor cleaner that is safe for all floors.
  11. Vacuuming out the bathroom first before cleaning it will make it much easier to clean.
  12. Pledge works great on bathroom light fixtures, inside window wells, and in sliding glass door tracks.
  13. Use baking soda in your kitchen sink if you have brown stains.
  14. Freshen up the garbage disposal by throwing in Lemon and Orange Peels.
  15. Sharpen the garbage disposal by occasionally throwing in some ice.
  16. Hydrogen peroxide products are safer than bleach products in your septic system.
  17. Magic Erasers are little miracles on fridge doors, painted wood doors, and the outside of the fridge.  Be careful not to use them on walls though.
  18. Use dish soap and water to clean just about anything.
  19. Vinegar and water work great to remove films left behind on wood floors.
  20. Use a dry Swiffer to dust all the walls in your home once a year.
  21. Simmer cinnamon sticks and cloves in a small pot to make your home smell good.
  22. Use ½ vinegar and ½ water to clean the mineral build up out of your coffee pot.  Rinse plain water a    couple of times after wards to get rid of the vinegar.
  23. For stained shower stall floors, spread some Soft Scrub to cover the whole floor, wait about ½ hour, then use a scrub brush and scrub in a circular motion.  If that doesn’t work so well, try using a Magic Eraser.
  24. Use a magic eraser to clean the washing machine agitator once or twice a year.
  25. “Dry Dust” your ceiling fan first to get the bulk of the dust off before using a dust spray on it.
  26. Sweep your garage out twice weekly to control the dirt that comes into the home.
  27. Always turn the stove fan on when cooking on the stove top to keep the humid grease from settling in the kitchen.
  28. Do not use dish soap when washing your vehicles as it could strip the wax off that you worked so hard to get on-use soap specially formulated for vehicles.
  29. WD 40 is great for removing crayon and lipstick.
  30. Microfiber cloths made for windows are well worth the money if you plan to do your own 32. window cleaning. Call me to where you can get them at the best deal.
  31. Use a notebook to organize your receipts, warranties, and important information and paperwork on your house.  You’ll always know where to look when something goes wrong.
  32. When sickness hits your home, spend 5 minutes to disinfect all the doorknobs and telephones with the Clorox wipes
  33. A canister vacuum is a must have if you plan to do your own housekeeping.  The various attachments that come with it are priceless!
  34. When having guests over, focus on “tidying” up instead of completely overhauling your house by spending days scrubbing it down.  The cleaning will be needed after they leave more than before.
  35. Guest tend to notice:  If blinds are crooked, if light bulbs in light fixtures don’t match, if pillows are not straight on the couch, the kitchen area, baseboards in the guest bathroom and of course the guest bathroom itself, fingerprints on doors, and the fridge door handle.  Do a quick touch up of these items before they arrive!
  36. Get your kids involved in picking up the house by having their own basket to put their items in.  Then they can take the basket into their rooms to put their things away.
  37. Stay away from aerosol cleaners as they spread tiny particles of toxic cleaner in the area.  Stick to a spray bottle or better yet, use it straight out of the bottle.
  38. A new paintbrush will work great for dusting lampshades and getting into tight spaces.
  39. Remove any rust spots in your house with fresh lemon juice, salt, and a little elbow grease.
  40. Soak your shower head in vinegar to remove mineral build up.
  41. Clean your sink drains naturally once a month by pouring ½ cup of baking soda in the drain and topping it off with white distilled vinegar.
  42. To get rid of urine smells around the toilet, try using Nature’s Miracle.  The enzymes will kill the odors and germs.
  43. Make your own natural dust polish with several drops of lemon essential oil mixed with liquid beeswax.
